You could go outside. Soak up the autumnal sunshine, watch a seagull peck at a bin in the park, do the awkward no-after-you dance with a fellow human being on a narrow pavement. But really, is it worth the bother? Inside is where it’s really happening. Inside is where the television lives.

It’s the beginning of cosy season on UK TV. Brand new Taskmaster and The Great British Bake-Off begin our descent into the end of the year, weekly fixtures that will carry us (almost) all the way to Christmas.

And speaking of things ending, the final season of Sex Education arrived last week on Netflix, and Ghosts series five, in which we bid farewell to Button House, isn’t too far around the corner with new episodes arriving on Friday October 6, the same day as the second series of Loki on Disney+. After that, it’s not long until the latest instalment in the Mike Flanagan horror-verse The Fall of the House of Usher, which lands on Netflix on Thursday October 12.

We’ll update this list of TV highlights weekly with more shows, dates and times as the release announcements arrive. If you’re based in the US, here’s where to look for the relevant info.
